The photographs of cell doors were produced in several prisons across France. They simultaneously establish a physical proximity to the inmate and his absence from the photographic frame. “An opening specially created in a wall to enable passage”, the doors stay closed in this instance and create a space of non-representation. In this instance, photography finds itself contradicted in its “revealing” function and strives to demonstrate the body and the image dispossessed.
